In order to get the most out of this website, please observe the following tips:
Members
This section shows the most recent biographical information posted by alumni about themselves. The search options at the top of the page allow you to limit what's shown by year, first letter of the last name, and whether to show students and/or parents. New alumni visiting the website should use the Register option to add their own entry to the list. Already-registered alumni should use the Update Registration option to update their existing entry instead of creating a new one (otherwise you'll end up with multiple entries for yourself). If you need to delete an entry, please
. The Recent Updates option shows recently created or updated entries with the more recent entries first.
You may wonder why there's no password involved when updating an existing entry, as this would seem to leave the system open for anyone to update anyone else's listing. It's true that anyone can attempt to modify an entry that belongs to someone else, but the change will not become effective until the owner of the entry confirms it via a link that is e-mailed to their registered e-mail address. If you should receive such an e-mail when you haven't updated your alumni listing,
immediately so the bogus update can be deleted. Rest assured that unauthorized updates will not appear on the website without your approval.
Website News
This section lists articles related to the website or other general alumni topics. Information of this sort was previously posted in the Announcements section of the forum, but will now appear here since so few people actually use the forum. A Recent News listing will probably be added to the right side of the home page to list the most recent news articles for quick reference.
Gallery
This section features photos, video, and music from yesteryear. Unlike the previous gallery, this one is open for anyone to view without having to register and log in. The only exception to this is the music section, which still requires registration and log-in for access. The Gallery is available for all alumni to post their own band photos, but again you must register in the gallery and log in before you can upload your own material.
Forums
This section is intended for alumni to share their thoughts with each other in an open forum. The original website was mainly centered around this feature, assuming that it would get considerable use, but in practice it was rarely used and thus has been relegated to a small component of the overall website. Unlike the previous forum, this one is open for anyone to read without having to register and log in. Alumni who wish to post their own messages are encouraged to do just that, but must first register in the forum and log in. Previous forum registrations prior to May 2005 are still in place so you can use the account you already have. New alumni must first register within the forum before posting.
When you register, please use the format FirstLastYear where First is your first name, Last is your last name as it was at GHS, and Year is your graduation year. For example, John Doe who graduated in 1995 would use JohnDoe95 for his username. Using this format works well to help identify who is posting, instead of using some cryptic nickname that no one recognizes. Registrations that don't follow this format will probably be rejected.
Domain E-mail Addresses
I've posted this in the forum before, but want to call attention to it directly from the main website since many folks don't read the forum posts. You probably have enough e-mail addresses already, but in case you're looking for one more you should know that a mailbox on the grissombandalumni.org domain is yours for the asking. I don't have an automated way for you to create one yourself, but I can easily do it for you on request. If you don't want an actual mailbox but would like to have an address that forwards e-mail to your existing mailbox, we can arrange that too.
